Everyone needs to leave home for sometime

I got my first chance to live few years all by myself, away from home, during my undergraduate education. I feel sympathy to people who spend all those years of college life being a day scholar (day pupil). Being away from home allows you to live the life the way you wanted than spending it the way others let you to or choose for you. You are likely to find people who could make you realize that you had everything you wanted but nothing you really needed. They could make the BIG change in your life. Besides, it gives the opportunity to understand yourself much better.  Education is not just about doing some dedicated works, attending classes and evaluations. It is also about exploring and grooming your own talents for survival.

Lucky me, I got my fair share. I hope any undergraduate student/ school kid or anyone with a next of kin younger kid, reading this note, would consider the idea of letting them to stay at campus (atleast) during their undergraduate program. Dear parents, besides your undivided attention, care, shelter and tasty food, your kids needs much more - including few chances to face failures and learn themselves to survive and earn respect. Your kids do not get all of these experiences if they were always with you.

  2. Addendum.
Few possible reason why some day scholars didn't perform well to their abilities:
    >  too many distractions ( media, social activities that were not essential, yet unavoidable at home setting )
    > inflexible timings and restrictions. Someone who feels yo be in a good mood to study is prevented from doing so at late night hours or or is asked to join for the family dinner when they are not really feeling hungry etc.
    >  Bigger issues at home makes an individual to subordinate their academic objectives and personal goals.

  3. While staying with family, the only vital task for me is doing the academic work diligently and get good grades. Any other activity undergoes an unexpressed scrutiny.

In my case, completing simple tasks of interest and benefit to me gives tremendous morale boost. Living by myself, not with parents, presents lots of such tasks. Each of them are important too. Completing each of them gives a sense of value to my life. Even failing while trying to do an unfamiliar task, say cooking, feels good. But being served with the best preparation of the same food at home no longer gives the same vibe.

The best of a person doesn't necessarily show up when given all the necessary resources and care. It appears when the person goes through a test of time, limited by resources and experience. How well the person manages to keep the system running is a great measure of skill and talent - which is seldom put to use unless necessary.

Being not so academically proficient, self inspired, diligent and focussed doesn't mean that the person is lesser than their counterpart. He/ She could be a person of great morals and values. An approachable person. Give them space and time and guidance whenever asked. You would soon be amazed.
